Cold at my back

The Shadow was upon me. I felt it’s bite, it’s fingers reaching. I cycled through the night. The faint street lights offered little protection from this darkness. Hackles raised I turned at each sound. Heart pumping. Sweat beaded as I approached my home. Turned into the alley that ran to the back. Pedalling into the darkness, it went on for too long.  No gate, no light. Just shadows, consuming.
