The platform

She waited. Watched the trains rush in and out. Listened to the relentless noise of the station. Tannoy announcements and roaring engines soothed her racing mind. She sat each day observed the commuters, families greeting loved ones from the train, day trippers and reunited loves. The didn’t see her, but she knew them. Knew their sins. Her head turned to the familiar sound of click clacking on the platform, the woman in red. Caught the 7.57 to who knows where. Today Jess would find out. She left her seat, stepped onto the train.
